North West Spain

The north west region of Spain is often overlooked by international travellers and it is just as well because this part of Spain enjoys the lack of chip shops, pubs and souvenir shops. Much like central Spain, the north west is still true.

Galicia is the north west point of Spain and it is famous for its scrumptious seafood, but more for the pilgrimage site, Santiago de Compostela. Also in Galicia travel to Lugo, one of the country’s most striking walled cities and take in the mighty lighthouse, the Tower of Hercules.

Lovely Asturias promotes a quiet way of life, but an active one in the Picos Mountains. In the Basque country east of Asturias one will discover a different side of Spain, a more unique and ancient blend with notes of French. A destination for the upper echelon, the Basque country is fabulous. Don’t miss the Guggenheim Bilbao.

Finally we have Castilla Leon and Cantabria in the north west. In Cantabria, Santander is the best destination offering great beaches, a lovely warm city and a vibrant culture. Castilla Leon is home to three of Spain’s most remarkable small cities; Salamanca, Segovia and Avila.

Each offer incredible views and are picture perfect. It is often remarked that this is where travellers will find the real Spain.
