Canary Islands

Nearer to Morocco than to Spain, the Canary Islands continue to be one of Spain’s most visited regions. The islands have features including mountain ranges, ancient ruins, exploded calderas, top windsurfing beaches, black sand beaches, golden sand blown over from the Sahara Desert, massive lidos, camel rides and so much more.

The festivals on the Canary Islands are vibrant including many saint’s days and of course the Carnival celebrations where Spain still excels over the rest of Europe. Indeed Spain has left much of the continent in the dust and now its regions compete and one of the best, if not THE best is the Carnival on Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Outstanding!

It is true that much of the Canaries have been overdeveloped by 2 bedroom condos not quite reminiscent of Benidorm (but not far off), but know where to go and you can avoid the masses and the pubs and get to know the charm of the Canary Islands.
